The older I get, the less I’m choosing to believe in. Belief requires a transparency of spirit and a willingness to be vulnerable that, as I age, I’m less willing to risk. I’ve been bamboozled enough in one lifetime by duplicitous authorities, officials, doctrines, and institutions.
HOWEVER.
With sports, I let my beliefs run WILD.
Did I chose to bet money on Scott Frost this weekend despite being 15-30 at Nebraska? WHY YES, YES I DID.
Have I put money on Tom Brady winning league MVP despite him being 45 years old at the most important individual position in sports? SEEMS SO, YES.
I am at peace with all the poor bets and ill-advised beliefs I will both have and hold throughout the season because I rationalize it by telling myself that belief is like a muscle; you have to flex it from time to time to keep from losing it entirely.
